I have been looking for a 2 day weather window to get down and fish for 2 days in a row and leave the boat down there but haven't had much luck the last 2 weeks! I have 2 buddies not "Tidalfisherman" guys
p that were chomping at the bit to go. Weather looked ok for Monday so we dicided to go and if it was one day then so be it,of course the weather was MUCH nicer than predicted except for the fog
and we bagged Tuesday.
Got launched around 8am after a quick bite at Stingrays and started at the N side of 9ft shoal on the pilings and quickly boated several slot fish and a few more. Put in a call to Chuck (couldn't see him in the fog and he was only a 1/2 mile away) and he was on birds. We quickly shot over and banged em for the next 2 1/2 hours. Lots and lots of 28 - 32" fish and the rest pulled hard. When looking back on it we figured we only got a few under 26" and none smaller than 22" We had umpteen triple ups and were laughing for a good while. We NEVER had birds and didn't catch fish and I think it was because we stayed with small baits. 5 or 7' BA or 7" bkd's with 3/4 or 1 ounce were hot. I did try a couple other lures including a cool 3/4 ounce chartruese jig head and 2 chrome spinners that I found at Bass pro and a 7" sassy salt water BA lime green with sparkles that I planned on using in the ocean that was also effective. One cool thing was we were able to start about 30 yards off the bridge and drift thru both sides of the span several times catching fish all the way thru! We figured we had caught about 150 in a little less than 3 hours and couldn't see how it could get any better so we ran out to the ocean looking for some big ones to jig on.
Actually my buds wanted some meat for the table and we would of headed out to sea earlier if it wasn't for the fog
p Well we voted to head out despite the fog not lifting completely and go towards Cape Henry because I thought it would be easier to navigate
back from there if the fog came back in seeing as how I don't have my GPS hooked up yet!
p To make a long story short we never found a jig bite and trolled up 1 nice 40"er and actually did get completely socked in for about a 1/2 hour or so.
Even though it was only one day it was still awsome, 4 1/2 hours of great conversation on the tow down about everything form politics, to the 911 conspiracy,to sports ,women and of course lots of fishing. Flat calm seas, great jigging and some meat for the table and I didn't have to tow the boat back:clapping2:
I wasn't going to put up a post because I didn't have many pictures( I don't know how you guys can take the time to snap shots when the bite is on) any one that knows me knows if there are fish to be had I'm going to be hadin em
My buddies Ben Ben the fisherman and Jim took alot but didn't get them to me yet so i will add them when I get em.I did miss one shot that would have been priceless,I was inching up on about 500 birds that were tight together when Ben was sittng on the front of the boat retying and the look on his face when we told him to turn around when we were about five feet away:yes:
