a lot of folks no longer appreciate how profoundly the bridge influenced the eastern shore. Not only by making the beaches much more accessible from DC and Baltimore (going via Wilmington was a looooong trip) but even more so making the inland parts of the eastern shore more accessible to the world (both getting there and getting out for those that lived there). The eastern shore as we know it today simply wouldn't be as it is now...for better or worse...without the bridge.

I doubt they had fishing in mind at the CBBT,but oh what a blessing it is.

FYI The Delaware Memorial Bridge opened Aug 15,1951.
I remember as a pup my family took a trip over it shortly after opening to the River View Beach Park. Traffic for miles.
