I spend the weekend visiting my inlaws in Chesapeake, VA. While my wife and our son spent some quality time with the family I went out tackle shopping. I visited as many shops as time would allow and purchased at least something at each of them. Here is what I found: (Negatives kept to a minimum as not to slander anyone’s business).
Gail’s Bait & Tackle on Battlefield Blvd in Chesapeake:
Very nice gunsmith.
Gail’s was the only B&T to have unpainted, un-haired, parachute heads in various sizes. I bought about a dozen for around $2 each. They also had some enormous twister tail shad that I couldn’t resist. I picked up some small packs of white and chartruse hair for parachutes to.
Chesapeake Bait & Tackle on Battlefield Blvd in Chesapeake:
Lots of crabbing supplies.
I bought a few 1oz jig heads. Not much else caught my eye. Seemed mostly set up for trout fishing and crabbing.
Princess Anne Distributing on 17th street at the beach:
By far my favorite of the shops I visited. Excellent inventory, and the best prices I saw anywhere.
I bought a half dozen parachutes, some trailer hooks, a few jig heads, and I would have purchased a big bundle of white and chartruce hair but they were sold out. The owner was great, and even offered me 10% off on the parachutes because of my charm, or because I bought 6.
Long Bay Point Tackle just north of Lesner bridge:
Closed for winter.
Crab Creek Tackle above Crab Creek Pizza @ Crab Creek boat ramp:
Very convenient for those launching at the ramp.
Jaime was a very nice guy, and just had his grand opening/relocation sale.
I purchased all four parachutes he had. The price was right and he offered me 20% off as part of his grand opening sale. He even comped me a few jig heads.
Hooker’s Tackle in Moyock, NC
I went down here on Sunday just to get out of the house.
Owner had a nice dog in the shop. I bought a few crimps and got on my way.
In summary: In the future I will frequent PA Distributing, and Crab Creek Tackle. Great prices, Friendly, Knowledgeable owners and prime locations. Thanks to all here for the suggestions.
