I do not see any reports about folks using bunker chunks while anchored. This is done quite a bit in the Delaware Bay...is this technique not used or work? Was thinking about heading down to try some chunking but did not want to waste my time. Any insight would be appreciate it.

We do it all the time and it works very well! Spring and fall season!
The fish will ignore it when there is fresh bunker to be eaten, but that is not too often. About this time of year we move away from Chunkin and start trolling or eeling!

I chunked at the MMBT lots of times this year and very successful but this time of year its trolling time Baby..:clap::clap:

You can catch all year round chunking. As a matter of fact early spring you can catch catfish near some of the local bridges. But as Kevin, aka Chunk King says other techniques become more productive in the late fall and early winter. Try those instead.

Hey Sammich - from my experience, something odd happened to chunking, maybe the lack of bunker in the C-Bay for the past few years has something to do with it; 5 or 6 years ago and prior to that it was very effective, but in the past few years, the technique has produced fewer fish and trolling out-paces chunking by far.

I think there are more fishermen at the local bridges than I have ever seen. My best days chunking I'm in +15 wind days when hardly anyone goes out. Chunking is about holding fish behind your boat and picking them off one by one. If you got 20 boats lined up along a bridge, a "striper buffet table" the fish are moving all over the place.
Chunking doesn't work. ???? Horsesh&t on that. This sport has more prophets & experts than any other sport I know. Fact... I clean stripers caught chunking with whole peanut bunker in them, they also have heads and tails, I don't use on hooks that I throw overboard. Chunking simply works and will outproduce trolling early in the season IMHO. Towards the late Fall early Winter all bets are off.

Did some at the MMBT in the early season and it produced a few fish, nothing spectacular but again it was early in the season. As others have said trolling, eeling and casting are the ticket now. I almost forgot about the half a platte of bunker in the freezer until I read this.

We limited out chunking on 28" fish opening day at the M&M, that's as early as you get in the season. FishingGeek was with me as a witness. I stopped fishing the M&M 2 weeks into the season because it was getting to damn crowded and disappeared to other fishing grounds. I've already beat this subject to death.
Eels are the natural enemy of the stripers. Eels eat hatchlings. I feel most bites are out of primordial instinct and not out of appetite. I've even seen an eel attack a striper's gill while in a live well. They don't like each other.

i did also early season around M&M, JRB...worked quite well this year. Bite turns off soon chunking there, in my experience...

The dog sharks will probally eat you outta house and home on chunks over towards the highrise. Shoot, they'll eat you out of eels if you fish on the bottom.
