You can catch all year round chunking. As a matter of fact early spring you can catch catfish near some of the local bridges. But as Kevin, aka Chunk King says other techniques become more productive in the late fall and early winter. Try those instead.

I think there are more fishermen at the local bridges than I have ever seen. My best days chunking I'm in +15 wind days when hardly anyone goes out. Chunking is about holding fish behind your boat and picking them off one by one. If you got 20 boats lined up along a bridge, a "striper buffet table" the fish are moving all over the place.

Chunking doesn't work. ???? Horsesh&t on that. This sport has more prophets & experts than any other sport I know. Fact... I clean stripers caught chunking with whole peanut bunker in them, they also have heads and tails, I don't use on hooks that I throw overboard. Chunking simply works and will outproduce trolling early in the season IMHO. Towards the late Fall early Winter all bets are off.

We limited out chunking on 28" fish opening day at the M&M, that's as early as you get in the season. FishingGeek was with me as a witness. I stopped fishing the M&M 2 weeks into the season because it was getting to damn crowded and disappeared to other fishing grounds. I've already beat this subject to death.

Eels are the natural enemy of the stripers. Eels eat hatchlings. I feel most bites are out of primordial instinct and not out of appetite. I've even seen an eel attack a striper's gill while in a live well. They don't like each other.
