My brother came in town from Richmond for the weekend and really wanted to catch a big speck. He's been after me for quite a while about making a trip to the hot ditch. We launched the boat around 630 and spent about 30 minutes catching bait...mostly finger mullet. We were the first to set up in the cove and it didn't take long before the action started. Jeff landed our first fish of the day a nice 24" speck. About 10 minutes later I got one on cut bait, then it shut off for about an hour. The action came in spurts throughout the day. We ended the day landing 7 specks ranging from 23"-26.5" with 5 being citation length or better (all were released). All fish except one were caught on live finger mullet. We wrapped up a great day around noon.
