Congratulations to Robolo Rob and J.A Veil! Rob won December Fisherman of the month and J.A Veil won 2008 SRRKC Fisherman of the Year. The infamous bare foot perch helped John take the title in a very close race. Congratulations to both anglers!

Mark -

Thanks to you and Skip for organizing the angler of the year award.
In a moment of pity or perhaps drunken stupor, those guys present at the meeting voted me the angler of the year for 2008 (not 2009 -- that would really be premature since I have not made a single cast yet this year) at our meeting last evening. I am not sure how I got chosen over the many truly talented anglers in the SRRKC -- perhaps it was because of the wide range of species I had caught during the year (pickerel, large yellow perch, huge white perch, landlocked salmon, brook trout, striper, spot, bluefish, croaker, large redfish, speckled trout, spanish mackerel, shad and probably others). Or maybe it had something to do with the Rio beach photos I posted periodically.

I am certainly not the best or most active fisherman in my club, but it was a nice honor.

I look forward to getting back out on the water soon to add some fish to the 2009 totals.

I was too busy watching the game and misunderstood what we were voting for - - didn't realize it was "Fisherman of the Year" - - I thought Mark said "Foot of the Year" :hysterical:

Congratulations, John  - that was a nice mix of species you put together for 2008! I just wish they were all available in the Severn.

I thought former president Larry banned that photo from the site. In retrospect, the gnarly size 12.5 foot probably distracted from the magnificent fish in the photo. That white perch was vastly larger than any other I have ever seen. I thought it was a largemouth bass at first -- the photo does not do it justice.

I know it was probably stated before, but the size, or smell, of your foot looks like it scared the $hit out of it.

John, I have to fess up. We originally had someone else in mind for fisherman of the year, but then we all realized how big you were and how mad you could possibly get, and...... :D

No really. An impressive year-long stringer. Some fine rewards for time spent on the water.

Sorry I missed the meeting, it sounds like you guys had a good time as usual. :chugbeer:

Thanks for the votes, I am honored to be fisherman of the month for December, even if it was just Yellow Perch that got me there.

Congrats to John for fisherman of the year...:clapping2: I think that awesome trip catching reds from the kayak was what got you the win...or was it the foot-long perch? :D

John and Rob - congrats both of you. Well deserved

Enjoyed meeting many of you at the meeting last night.

Doing some fly gear rigging this evening - waiting for the opportunity to get out.

Greg - I took you advice (go big) and tied a pickeral fly on a XXlong 1/0 last night - a half and half- in pink, amber, and copper colors. Had to do something to enjoy the beer buzz I came home with.

Ugh…another opportunity to progress science wasted. John was so focused on the perch that he forgot to back up and get the entire Sasquatch in the frame!:D You could have won fisherman of the decade, John!
