Cool pics... really cool, Brrrr. I can pretty much remember all those deep freezes. In 1957, I was 11 and remember ice skating on nearby Lock Raven Reservoir. The ice was extremely clear and appeared to be at least 16"-18" thick. Also, the deep freeze of 1977 froze the underground pipe that supplied water to our old country house we had bought just 6 months earlier. Stayed frozen for at least a month, rough start for a couple of newlyweds.

Anyone remember all the iceboating that was done in the area of Middle River just NE of Baltimore, maybe back in the 1960s. Use to be an annual event with all sorts of races.

What happened to the ship in pic #7? How'd all that slab ice get on top the deck???

There were several ice boats on the upper Bush River between Bata and the railroad bridge in the mid to late 70's I was thinking about that this past winter when it was all iced over. Ice piled up on the north end of Spesutie Island all the way up to the road.
