The keel goes on before the chines and after the floor-boards. I used 2 pieces of Honduran Mahogany, jointed and planed to a width of 4 1/4" x 3/4" each. The space on either side of the keel is for water to drain beween the bottom and the floor-boards. The first board is screwed down with silicon-bronze screws. The second is clamped and glued-only with a 2-part epoxy mix, then mix with filler. That's because I had to plane most of the top board down as shown in the pics with garboards installed. I bought the clamps at Ollies in Severna Park - very cheap - and since found an even cheaper place, Harbor Freight in Laurel. Harbor has cheap tools and building supplies at unbelievably low prices. Far from Craftsman quality but good enough; I work for the government. Jim
