Hey b dog,
For summer, I use finger mullet rigs (store bought) and tie my own top-n-bottom rigs (with 20 or 30 lb test) with a surgeons loop at the bottom for quick sinker changes, two droppers (18" and 24" from the bottom) and a quality ball bearing swivel at the top. The surf creates tons of line twist, so get ball bearing swivels for the surf. The 18" length on the bottom bait seems high enough to keep the crabs off.

Right now its prolly just small stuff so smaller hooks (#4) with fishbites Bloodworms should get ya some kings and croakers and finger mullet rigs should be the ticket for blues. With any luck, you may get into some sharks and rays [grin].
