Hi.

I'm thinking about going on a spring break (mid-March) vacation with my family to Punta Allen on the Yucatan. Of course, I'll have to bring my fishing gear to wade some flats . I have read that the available species include bones, permit, snook and tarpon. I am not able at this time to hire a guide so I planned to try fishing on my own. Does anyone have any experience DIY fishing in this area? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

We are also considering a place to stay called Posada Sirena (a small guest cottage run by a woman in Punta Allen). Has anyone ever stayed there?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Tight lines,

Neal

Just got back from Punta Allen. Went down there just like you are(no real plans , just try to get lucky.)Found a place in Punta Allen called Concheta Hotel $45 a night clean and safe. electric comes on after dark and no hot water. Fish with a guide Norberto Reyes who live right behind the hotel.(cell 983 114 1720) Good price and very knowldgable caught permet and bone plus snappers, jack and barracuda. Even did a little snorkeling. His english is not so great but if you call him get you set. I suggest you spend a night or two at Casa Cenote near Tulum I caught two bones forty feet from my room. they were tailing before sunrise. The family will love this place.

Fished the Boca Paila bridge and inlet. Didn't have much luck but I'm sure it holds fish. I would spend a few hours there for sure and bring you camera. The road to Punta Allen is rough but we made with the rental car. A jeep would be better.

Good Luck
