This past year was my first year with a boat that had flush mounted electronics and I was wondering what most people do over the winter... do you leave them installed or remove them. The only unit I'm really concerned about is my Lowrance LCX-38c since it was so expensive. The boat does have a t-top and is covered so the electronics are not directly exposed.

I don't think the cold will do any damage to your electronics. All of my electronics are flush mounted but I do remove them each and every time from the boat. Not so much because I fear what the weather will do to them, but bad economy, lost jobs= more thieves on the streets. The harsh reality we live in......

I have never had a problem leaving electronics on the boat over the winter.

Never had a problem either. Of course they should be covered to protect from rain = ice damage. Temperature alone is not a problem.

Mine have been on for five years with no problems and that here in PA which is a little colder than in MD.

If I had to guess, the 100 degree sunner days would be worse on them then the cold....I would'nt worry.

I keep my backup fishfinder (Sitex CRT unit) and radio onboard all winter. My Raymarine fishfinder and Raymarine GPS units come off the boat simply because of the chance of theft. Never had a problem, just keep them dry.

Never had a problem till last year. After the winter my cd/player-radio didnt work, not sure why, but it gave me a chance to upgrade. Interestingly enough my fishfinder and vhf were in the boat and both were fine??
