The Fiance' and I had a blast catching everything that swims last year down on the Eastern Shore of Virginia this past summer. We plan to go again this year, but she really wants to catch a shark. We saw several big ones last year, but only managed rays.

Can anyone offer advice on catching sharks down near Kiptopeke? General Locations (not looking for anyones GPS), baits, rigs, tides, etc? The only thing is we would have to say inshore of the bridge, generally close to land because we don't have a big boat. She is kinda fearful of the ocean anyway.

We don't care what kind of sharks, just bigger than the 16inch dogfish we catch in Ocean City. Last year we fished near the Fisherman's Island bridge and like I said, we saw some sharks, but we are just looking for more of a sure thing (not that there is ever such a thing in fishing). Thanks for the help folks.

Being from your neck of the woods I prefer OC (Gull Shoals area) for sharking. Being stationed down here the areas I take folks to sharking with great success is Nautalus Shoal (ther are a few wrecks around there) and Ches Light.

Contact me if you need more info.

You might want to consider some of the other ES areas like Wachapreague and Oyster since you have a small boat. Wachapreague Inlet holds a fair population of sandbar sharks, most 2 to 4 feet with an occasional larger one. Lots of dogfish and rumor has it they catch an occasional flounder in those parts. Good luck.

9 ft shoals is on the ocean side of the bridge and extends underneath the span. You can't miss it on a strong NE wind. Waves breaking on the shoal can throw spray up and over the bridge span. I've seen it, but from the bridge, not the water.

Thanks for the help...

guys but I think as described in the last post about the wavers breaking spray over the bridge, my boat will steer clear of that spot.

I know the best answer is, a shark "could" be anywhere, but looking for a place to anchor, chum and fish, and have a decent shot at a shark.

Good replies. Keep it coming.

Tight lines!

FWIW I put a 208 lb Lemon shark in the boat at 9 ft shoal a few years back.
Then there was the one on a 6/0 for just under an hour right at Al's fish light one night about the same time frame. That one did not come in the boat, but he did make it along side.:eek2:
