Been thinkin about this, why couldn,t we have a Tidewater Fishermans hall of fame? It would honor those pioneers of fishing in this area that promoted, taught, fished and set standards of excellence for this area. Some of these greats are not even known nowadays and it would be a shame to let there accomplishments just fade into the past. Many of them have passed, but it would still be great if we could honor them. Maybe money for this could come from the fishin liecense money, to get it started. Im just curious of thoughts on this. Fisherman bring alot into the Tidewater economy, so why not a place to honor the best!

Pete,

You stole my thunder!:clapping2: I have been thinking about this very subject for years!!!!

I think it's a fantastic idea.

I will be glad to help you anyway that I can, Also may be able to give a little of that green stuff that is in short supply these days to help get it off the ground. (I doubt if you would be able to get any money from the fishing license fees, but it's worth a shot)

Well then, sounds like those of us that like this idea should get together and brain storm this a bit. Sorry for stealin your thunder Doug, but we can still say its your idea!:D We would need a place to do this, we could have meeting rooms for the fishing clubs and other related fishin things. Not only would it be a place to honor those that pioneered fishin, but a place to teach, give seminars and educate those wanting to learn more about fishin. I have no money to donate, but I do have time, talent and know many of the elders of fishin that taught me and know the stories of many more that have gone to that fishin hole in the sky. I think I could also get some of the big guns involved in this.SH!T, I am one of the old guys!:eek2:Any time for a meeting? Call me if interested! After 5pm 428-7198.

You asked , so my opinion is it would be kinda silly, big egoes would be crushed, paper chasers would turn into "Hall of Fame" chasers , and no i wouldnt want any licence money to go to it , they waste enough of that allready. Sounds like something bass fisherman would like, try and see if Bass pro shop will sponsor it. And after a post like mine, this one, i prob wouldnt be elected anyway for i would be in errors with the nominating committe:D

The purpose of this would be to honor the older and forgotten men and women of this area who began sportfishing in the Tidewater. Not to stoke egos, dont really care about paper chasers, but those people that developed the fisherys and promoted them. I have a plan, and I will follow it. No modern day fishermen would be in the hall. This would be the history of fishing and those that made it great.

Im going to be looking for old photos, newspaper articles, maybe even old fishing gear from 1940-1960s, maybe the 70s. Who is the president of Tidewater Anglers club now? I need to talk to them also. If anyone has anything in this time frame that they are willing to donate let me know.
