I got a buddy coming to visit and fish this Thursday afternoon through Sat, and looks like it's going to be blowing like hell through Friday. Were looking to fish for stripers and trout, staying near Whitestone. Fishing out of 17 foot DC with 90 horse. Any suggestions on sheltered spots that could produce? Mostly looking for hookups, not monster fish. Thanks!

Looks like early Saturday will be your best time according to the current forecast. You might be able to fish up the Rappahannock toward Urbanna and above.

Thanks, those are the two possibilities I was thinking of. It's nice to have them confirmed as worthwhile shots. Into the teeth of the gale we go . . .

Go over to Gwynn's Island. There is a very nice launching ramp just past the bridge on the right side of the road. From there you can try Milford Haven and the Hole In The Wall channel for specks and trout. You might be able to snare a rock or two out from under the bridge using light buck tails and grubs. Also try around the shallows of Stutts Creek. There are plenty of spots to fish in the area.

Here's the report for any interested. Thursday afternoon we worked Urbana Creek, throwing plugs and jigs on light tackle. Was pretty sheltered, while looked like 4 foot waves outside the jetty. No luck. Friday headed out to Stingray Pt. and got some small stripers and one keeper trout trolling, but wind picked up by mid-morning and we hightailed it back up river. By then blowing about 15W, and with my small boat we took shelter in Corrotoman River. Picked up a few stripers there trolling, and then found a load of bait and trout under loons at mouth of the river on way out. Jigged up 25+, about half keepers, biggest about 2 lbs. In late afternoon worked small fish out from Mill Creek. Saturday cast to schoolies (15-17") out from Mill Creek again, and then to Windmill Pt. Tons of boats, we stayed off to north in 30-40 feet, where there was a lot of bait but we didn't get a bump. Later we joined in casting to fish with light tackle again, and caught a load of fish. Good fun! In afternoon looked for the trout again, but had to settle for more small schoolies. Sunday morning went out and caught some keepers (finally!) jigging off Mosquito Point and on a load of fish out from Mill Creek. The fish stayed up on top most of the morning there, but lots and lots of bait and fish marked on sonar and caught jigging in 25 - 30 feet. Seemed bigger fish (but few 18") in river than bay, in general. Anyway, a great time was had by all! Good seeing you Val, will keep you posted!
