I'm sure this question has been asked before, but what can I say, I'm too lazy to search for it. If I leave from Hampton, chase the fish into NC waters, then return to Hampton do I need a NC fishing license? I have a VA saltwater boat license, I don't believe NC offers a boat license, so in the scenario above would everyone need a NC license?

Don't get so deep.. It's already too much of a complicated world in which we fish. Just ask those who like to catch em 8 miles offshore, Do you need a special license to catch em federal waters?

It's all in what you are willing to do catch a rather ordinary not so fantastic angling species that truly make a lot of people lose their minds and a lot of sleep to catch. Packs of boats, hurt feelings but plenty of fish overall. The fisheries management that brought it all back some years ago was spectacular but it's time for more thought. It's time to start a grass roots effort to federalize the whole thing.

A limit is a limit no matter where you are fishing.

Nc has been putting the Grip on everyone, I think they forgot that tourism and fishing have kept them afloat for ever. Last year Nc closes the beaches , hands out BS tickets for trailors to wide , and change the speed limit so mant times heading towards their Beaches for speeding tickets that they are Bound to damage their Income from Us in Va and every other State that visits them... WHoever is making all the decisions should be
Impeached. .. I love Nc but its just become to many Regs ,, I'll stick to Va ,,, WHere can at least understand why you got a ticket.

Bluey--The greenies and the FEDS punish the snot out of us down here in nc,and you blame us?! Thank you for your help!!Wait until the same crowd gets its fingers around your neck and the commitee of do-gooders comes forth to compromise YOUR water access. If you like it here so much, how many of your Federal legislators did you call? I admit this state is tax and regulation crazy, but we could have used a little more help with those beach closures from those such as yourself who profess to be so proficient, brilliant and full of love for our sport.Thank You for DROPPING THE BALL! We haven't given up here.

That's not correct

Screw NC. We let those bastards fish up here without a VA license but then they don't do the same??? WTF :clapping2:
NC fishermen are subject to the same licensing requirements to fish in VA waters, be it boat licensing or individual, as Virginians. I have personally bought a VA boat license every year since the law was passed requiring them. I have also been checked by The Man, on average once a year.

I'll be the first to say the lack of an NC boat license is a pain in the butt. The wildlife scientists, however, support strict individual licensing in order to generate more statistical data on recreational fishing pressure. I'm not a scientist so am not in position to say whether this is good or bad. As a recreational fisherman, however, I acknowledge it's a pain and looks unfair on its face.

A lot of us up this way got involved to try and help stop the beach closures. We signed many petitions, sent e-mails and donated money to the cause.

It is a shame what organizations like the Audubon Society and like minded fanatic groups are trying to do to our beach access around the country. They are so well funded that defeating them is difficult. Anyone contemplating buying a Toyota keep in mind that Toyota donated millions of dollars to the Audubon Society. They also donate to other radical enviro groups. Another group who pretend to be a friend of sportsman is the Sierra Club. These people are far left wingers who like nothing more than to see fishing and hunting go away.

Anyway back on topic. I think NC and Virginia should have reciprocal licenses.

I am pretty sure he was talking more about the politics involved and not the individual fishermen.

If any of you guys from NC own a Toyota, you helped close you own beaches. Think about that the next time you or your wife starts up that Camry or Toyota pickup. Boycott Toyota now and buy Ford, Chevy, Chrysler or GM while you still can. :helpsmilie:

My two cents...

OT: Question

And everybody on the boat who wants his 2 fish needs one too. I had a case were 3 out of 4 of us had NC licenses so we could only keep 6 fish.
Mike, I've been told that everyone on the boat has to have an NC license ...regardles of the number of fish landed. That doesn't sound right to me... but the only thing I can find in the NC regs states that everyone FISHING in NC must be licensed. Do you know if going for a boat ride constitutes FISHING, if others are fishing on the boat?

don't mean to fuel the hijack but Toyota was specific on as to what the money was allowed to be used for. None of it was to support the closing of NC beaches for driving. They dump tons of money into trail teams and conservation efforts for off-roading. I'm sure other american auto companys donate money to non profit organizations, wildlife groups or whatever... Toyota response below

TOYOTA OPEN ROAD BLOG: Toyota and the Audubon Society: No Good Deed Goes Unpunished Dept.

The issue at hand however about everyone on the boat needing a seperate NC license is silly and inconvenient. How are you going to go from no license to everyone needs one now that is fishing? Hopefully they will readdress this?

At least NC makes it easy...

You can go online and get that NC license. At least that makes it easy, no need to go to a store and stand in line etc.

Make the rules easy to comply with and people are more likely to follow.

There is something to be said for knowing the true number of people fishing. I buy one boat license for MD that covers VA, but it doesn't let the scientists know how many people fish with me.

After re-reading this thread I think I have the picture now. NC people can get a Va. boat license and everyone on board is covered just like Virginia folks are covered with it..

So NC folks have to either have a Virginia boat license or everyone fishing on board needs a Va. individual license.

A few people had told me that people coming up to fish Virginia waters did not need any type of Virginia license as long as they had a NC saltwater license. Bad informaiton.

So NC fisherman in Virginia waters are not getting away scott free.

Since NC does not sell a boat license everyone on board must have a NC individual license when fishing in NC.

The inequity then lies in the fact that Va sells a sticker and NC does not.

I think I have got it through my thick skull now.
