I know I know this is the Bay board but I thought I would get more responses here. The freshwater board is dead.

I want to try the freshwater striper thing this weekend (Sunday-mid 50's).
The lake is very big and I was hoping someone could help point me to an area that I might concentrate on. On another post I was told the fish are schooling deep. I looked at google earth and it looks like there is a ramp beside the dam on the east side of the lake. It goes to reason that this is the deepest part of the lake but I have never been on the lake so I can only guess.

I not looking for any secret spots (unless that what you want to give me:D) but 13,000 acres is a bit daunting. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

I did very well stripper fishing this spring on the northern end of the lake. It would be the place I'd go back to again in March/April. Did awfull in the summer though. This time of year your likely to do best trolling deeper areas. I like to put in at Sturgen Creek Marina as once out of the cove I can go either direction. If you want a ho for Sunday let me know. Just give me a call on the cell (405-662-2075). I'm in Richmond.

get a map and start looking in Pigeon creek just up from the 208 bridge then move up towards the splits right near the state park you may see other boats out there,
The birds work on anna too so keep an eye open for them , you can troll a 3 way to a 1 to 1 1/2 jig head with a green or chartruese sassy shad , they sell them right there .. also put a 1/2 ounce jig on the other to the 3 way ... I use downrigger balls about 10-12 feet down tied off the back cleats .. You can also get some large Shiners and do down line drops ... once you find fish..

Yes trolling works all season , if you have a baitwell then you can find some Shad at the mouth of creeks they will be deep .. Its a pain in the butt but productive if you can keep them alive.. SHiners are more Hearty and work pretty good.. I also have a Buddy who guides on the lake as this is what he just told me so I 'm not pullin your leg here...

If the stripers don't bite you can hit any of the bridge pillings this time of year and get into some very large Crappie as well on 1/8 jig tippedwith live Small minnnows

John Chaddock and Agie Jacks service is a good chioce as well 540-222-0733

I have not fished Anna this year but have alot of experience there, learned alot from Jim Hemby and the late Doug Ball. I have caught stripers to 18 pounds there on live herring. the best time to fish is low light/cloudy days. I would launch from High Point marina at the 208 bridge, ask them whats going on with the fish. Then depending on what they say and the water temp I would probably start looking at Stubbs or Holiday Mill bridge and work down to the splits looking for fish on the finder or birds working, if nothing between the bridges and the splits then look down to the 208 bridge if still nothing continue down to the power plant, there should be some in one of these areas, that is a large portion of the lake. The best bait is live blue back herring, they are really hard to catch during the day, easy to catch before daylight, 4 to 6 inch gizzard shad would be my second choice. Blade baits, Sea shads, sassy shads are good.

Good water depths just get a chart and read it good, lots of shallow areas to watch out for, the ramps at the marinas are good, High Point and Anna Point marinas are right at the 208 bridge on Spotsylvania side and they have minnows. The lake has good largemouth, striper and crappie fishing. To succesfully fish for stripers you really need a boat with a trolling motor, the fish are super spooky.

your boat is fine just watch the graph , you won't be fishing in shallow water anyway the fish are deep , an electric motor is good to have but if you see fish busting the surface just ease up on them as fast as you can but they will spook quick so cast far sassy shads 1/2 jigheads ... fish the mouths of the creeks and the splits up from the 208 Bridge .. I would launch from High Point and head up lake , teh first major creek on the right is Pigeon , its deep and hold fish ,,, I would drop Shinners ( Large ) on them with down rods ,, its a carolina type rig eccept you'll want 3-5 feet of leader below the weight and drift the area with the rods in your holders at different depths , you know when a fish hits all hell breaks lose... I like to troll that creek in July , limited out every day july 4th week this year (08) as mentioned above I like to use downrigger balls tied to my rear cleats to a 3 way with sassy shad in green , a 1 to 1 1/2 ounce jighead 6 ft of leader and a bucktail 1./2 white to the other ... Catching shad and Herring will be hard for your first trip , I would scrub that and use Minnows from High point, We did this last feb and did very well ( Same Creek above) 7 fish oneday but went back 2 days later and nada ... its a boring lake until you figure it out. I would use live bait and do the drift thing, but tool around till you find fish or a lot of bait on te screen and there is where you should start , stay in 25-30 feet down rods at about 20-25 feet ...

Good luck you will either come home with lots of fish or Nothing at all thats just lake Anna ...

I don't know how it is enforced but I heard that boats over 20 feet are not allowed on the lake. My son lives in the area and fishes the lake quite a bit. He has a 20 foot Sea Hunt.

I've seen MANY boats there over 20' so if that's true, it's not enforced at all. There is a lot of lake there so plenty of room for everyone.

I was there when the hurricane filled her up... Gave it hell in the early days.

1 - You've received some very good advice - Just add water.
2 - Length limits? They never told me? Have you ever been there on any given weekend during the summer?
3 - I wish, if true, they'd inforce it. Then that Harris guy (above) would have to beg me to pull-out the old JBoat

Lake Anna Striper Fishing

Hans,

I have fished it at different times of the year and right now you can't miss the fleet that usually is around the 208 Bridge.

You may want to consider going east and fish Cape Henry on Sunday. Let me know if you want a HO.

I say Cape Henry if You have the Chance , Anna is Not easy but as i stated before You either do or you either don't ... Just find them and drop the bait on them and hope ... It can happen just as fast as Cape Henry or it can be as slow as Cape Henry ,,, the only difference it the fish you catch off Henry will twice the size of the Ones in ANNA ...

But Hey we are all Adventurous thats why we hunt and fish
