I have done well night chunking in December in the Hudson. I would bet there are fish in that water... if you can get out. The problem after the fall chunking season is usually good water bad weather or good weather bad water. The fish never really showed up in the Hudson this fall.
I remember reading a story about tuna fishing late in the year.I think it was Saltwater Sportsman. They wrote about the fact tuna are out there much longer then anyone fishes for them. Some longline boats go out deep in winter.
With a good sat. shot - it might be worth a try.
A few years ago in late Oct. the guys chunked in deep water near Washington canyon. They lower weighted butterfish 300-350 feet down to hook the tuna.they reported bringing up the entire school once one was hooked .
