There will be a free screening of "Stripers: The Quest for the Bite" at the Richmond Public Library Theater on Franklin Street. The one hour film about Striped Bass fishing, culture, and marine biology will held at the Library auditorium and will feature LIVE music as well as a Q&A session and DVD/Photography signing. There will be plenty of coffee, so join us for an evening about Striped Bass. The broadcast dates for PBS this fall will be announced. Please check with the Library for updated film times.... If you have an actual PhD then you know the definition of a documentary. Your film is not a documentary. If it was it would be balanced, fair, and report facts from all sides (which it doesn't). Your film seems to be about filming catching stripers. A few minutes on youtube you would discover there are hundreds of thousands of such films.

Hi Mike, I would really like to hear your response to the film after you see it... It features marine biologists from the Federal Fish and Wildlife Service, the NC Department of Fisheries, The Atlantic Coastal Marine Commission, and asks the question, " What is effecting the migration patterns of the adult spawning females regarding our bays and coastal waters. There is also a lot of fishing action and rockfish culture (almost a cult following). If you can't get a DVD, watch it on PBS this fall, then let me know your thoughts. Thanks, Dave

I don't get the hostility either. Dave does nice work. Have you seen his film on oystering in the Bay? That was really nicely done. There is another film coming about the history of the lower Bay. How about looking at it first (and not just the YouTube) before attacking? Geezus Guys, are we in high school?

Maybe drmiller having 29 threads that he started and everyone is about a film that he produced and not one fishing report, maybe that comes across the wrong way like he's just on here trying to make a buck, maybe that's why he's getting such negative feed back.

Fishboy, thanks for the honesty, but the film isn't about paying the bills, its about completing a project I have wanted to have the time to do (filming took six months) and about sharing my love of Rockfishing. I will never forget the experience of catching 280 rockfish between 20-60 lbs in six hours, nor meeting the quality of people I met on the water and sharing a love of fishing. When I asked Lewis Lee, a taxidermist, what he thought of this film, he said "It's Perfect". So I am stoked about getting it out there. I just found out that it will be airing in Charlottesville, Richmond, and Tidewater in HD on PBS later this year..........hope you can make it, get the DVD, or see it on television...........Thanks again for your comments......Dave

Because all he has been doing is spamming the board with buy my DVD posts. Second, we've all had a tough bay rockfish seasons in the last 2 years and the coastal fishing has been almost zero for many of us. So here comes a movie trailer talking about rockfish plenty of them showing a wide open bite with lots action. Well most appears to be in the EEZ (during a tagging trip) where we are not allowed target rockfish. The film appears (to me) to be a complete misrepresentation of what is really going on.

Mike, I plan on attending the viewing tonight. I haven't seen a good rockfish bite on any of the boats I have been on the last three years. I will be more than happy to give a review about the film later this evening.

Thanks Bret. I look forward to meeting you and hearing your comments and questions. I know a good documentary instills controversy and emotions, especially with a passionate subject like Rockfishing. I am looking forward to your review and hopefully others will join in. I also know this has been a tough if not the worst season on the bay, which Capt. Ryan says in the film. That made my job even harder, but I think the film is a winner and if you like it, please support my efforts to get it seen..........I will be working to update my website: BreathingLifeTV.com I also welcome input on links to put on the site and better ways to improve it. I will be redesigning it to show more of my views on helping restore the bay. I have been fishing the middle bay for over 25 years and have seen what has happened to a once fantastic fishery. Well, not much to report. Arrived fashionably late and found an empty auditorium. Did get a chance to speak with Dave Miller for a few minutes. Guess I will have to wait until September 25 for the PBS airing here in Richmond.
