 A buddy and I have been getting to hammer down on some geese here lately. We switched directions lately and have been hitting a small grass field, nothing special about this field, when we don't set up monday thru friday, the birds are never around. Every saturday we throw some decoys out and here they come. 3 outta 4 times we have limited out with 3 to 4 guys in the blind. Today was no exception. But today was a day we were in a zone.
We left a small pocket in our decoy spread by accident way out. A small flock flew in and wanted to land way out in this pocket, me and my buddy was looking at each other like what should we do?, so we decided to try them. If we actually knew in advance how far it was we probably would not have tried them, but we dropped 3 birds outta that bunch. We set up at 7:00 and was finished by 8:30. After it was all over we stepped off the distance on those long shots. 57 Yards. Guys, thank goodness we dropped these birds clean and didn't cripple any others, but like I said, if we actually knew they were that far out, we would not have taken those shots. I also pulled a double, which was nice.
With the absence of ducks this year, the goose hunting for us has made the difference for us.
