Is there anything biting right now in Hampton or in VA Beach from the shore/surf? I am headed down there March 23, and I would like to know if I should bring my gear and wet a line.

Thanks,

John

I'm not sure what the regulations are on fishing at Buckroe but last April I caught flounder from my boat within spitting distance of the beach...

Howdy and welcome !

The water is still a bit chilly. I have heard of some scattered reports of Croaker, Puppy Drum and Speckled Trout being caught. Nothing hot and heavy right now but that could change quickly.

You may want to check the Surf Fishing board here on TidalFish prior to your coming down.

Here is another site devoted to Surf Fishing. Just scroll down to the Virginia Board for local reports.

The Ocean View Fishing Pier is now open. You can check their site for reports or call before you come.

As far as bringing your fishing gear with you, I say "NEVER leave home without it".:))

BTW, I have a canoe I keep at the docks at Saltponds Inlet, you're welcome to use it to check out our skinny water around the inlet or marsh areas. Who knows, you might find some speckled trout or puppy drum. The offer is open to any tidal fish member, most of the time it's just sitting there on the floating dock. Just plan to outing during the incoming tide or beginning of the outgoing as it gets real skinny at low tide.
