If I as a private citizen of md sell a hand gun to another private citizen of virginia what are the laws to make it legal ?
Is a bill of sale legal ?
Do we need to do a ffl transfer ?
The handgun is approx 70 yrs old and will go to a collector.
Just want to make sure I am above board on this.
Thanks

You may want a licensed dealer to handle the transaction,
I got a feeling it may be tricky.
I got friends here in VA who go through dealers instead of
gun shops because they want everything "legit".
I've seen it take two weeks to get their selected firearm.

I have an FFL and in Maryland, and 2 people who may legally own firearms, not convicted felons, etc, may complete a transaction between themselves.

For a handgun sale across state lines you are required to perform the transaction through an FFL, probably have to have one here and on that end, each taking a bit O' cash. Sell it to me as I'm in Maryland... I also collect those Colts ;)

The details take up a book.... in the terms of my answer, it relates to your question only as you are transferring a "curio and relic" firearm. Not modern firearms or regulated weapons, yadda, yadda, yadda...
