Ran the No Mercy down to the rock pile and got jiggy with it. After fighting sharks, amberjacks, freaking thousands of false albacore (big SOBS too!) and a fat box full of blackfins, we are whooped.

We had a 150# mako eat a piece of cut false albacore i drifted back to him after we saw it cruising on the surface, got him to the boat and had a little conflict with the tail rope and he chewed through the leader before we could get it tight. Damnit man! But the coolest thing we probably saw today was a big hammerhead chasing the mako trying to eat it while we were fighting it! That, and me getting spooled on my 50wide at full lock down drag by a big hammerhead.

Rudy definately had the hot hand today catching 9 of the bigger blackfins up to 24lbs. if Im not mistaking and countless smaller fish we didnt keep, except 1 that we decided would be good sushi when the bite slowed down...it never did so we ate it while we washed down the boat.

I also got a citation blackfin at 23lbs.

What a day, Im sore, bruised up, and tired. What a good feeling to know that its because you caught a ton of fish. Pictures tomorrow!

We fished the same area Sat on the Little Clam and had a blast. I couldn't keep the Jacks off of my jigs, thank god they were all small. We had a limit of grouper and silvers, put a small Mako in the boat but never found the blackfin in numbers. Lots of busting alberts and bonita on the breaks, tons of sharks.
Sounds like you guys had a blast and found the tuna to boot.

A couple of the bigger blackfins headed home to Hampton before this pictures was taken.

Me and the little guy...

Can you say gaff shot?

Wheelbarrel full!

I forgot to add some of my dumba$$ness. as I was throwing citation fish up on the dock to weigh, I threw and missed with one of them. You guessed it, right in the water. After careful examination of our situation, Rudy and I looking deep into the water I spotted him, so I STUCK em again!

Just got done eating Blackfin, Shrimp, and pineapple on skewers, didnt marinate the tuna at all and cooked over charcoal. freaking delecious. I like it better than yellowfin for sure. We kept the small one in the picture to try and eat on the boat but no one would stop fishing long enough to cut it up so we ate it while we washed up the boat sushi style. It is definately near the top of my list.

Pretty Work

Sounds like some kick ass Blackfin action down there. We tried for them last year on the Good Times out of Hatteras but they were about dried up by then. I wanted to make a run for them this past Sun also but ended up too busy. Sure would of been the perfect day as nice as it was + I see the fish are still biteing good on all the rocks.

Don't think I'll make the Rock pile but we will hit the 280 to 230 area if we can get another weather window before it dries up. Also hope the winter resident Bluefin might show again soon like last year. They were a blast & to combine trolling & Jigging on the same trip would be awesome.

Congrats on the successfull jig fest!:rockingreport:
