Hello NC Board: Well I did it. I finally bought a home in the Morehead City / Beaufort area. I have been vacationing down on the crystal coast for many years but most of the vacation time on the boat has been boating with the family or I have been scuba diving from the local dive boats. Now I am interested in getting dialed in to the local fishing in and around Beaufort Inlet, Cape Lookout, etc.; both inshore and offshore. I just read the thread titled "Atlantic Beach Seasons" and that was some good info on the cobia.

What about other meat fish; flounder, sheepshead, tuna, dolphin, kings, etc.?

Also, any recommendations for local tackle shops?

Thanks and Merry Christmas,

Doug

Welcome to Tidal Fish Doug

The Morehead/Beaufort area is a great place to live and fish.Every species you mentioned is available plus its one of the best places on the east coast to catch speckled trout.

I'm alot farther north so I don't have specifics but it shouldn't hard to find the bait shops and info.

good luck and leave some for seed.

nightime fishing at the Atlantic beach Causeway Bridge with floating lights ,,,, Live Shrimp you will catch Flounder, Sheepies, pups and trout, Mouth on Inlet summer Spanish mac fishing is very good, may at the mouth for Cobia can be very good, At Cape lookout there is a submerged rock jetty and 3/8 ounce Jig heads and gulp shrimp or the like will catch trout , reds , flounder on the right tide ..

backside of Shackfords banks has a trough and at certain times of the year can also be productive. All the marshes on the backside of Shackfords and around the turning basin .. Don't get caught up in to much live bait fishing I mean its great at times but don't hesitate to heaveJigs and gulp they really have the ability to outfish live bait, Look around the AR315 in April for false albicore and Bonita on larger clark spoons
along with some pretty good flounder fishing there during the week.. If you can tralior down to Bougue Inlet there are someoutstanding catches of Pompano during certain times of the year..

good luck as You I vacation there every year in Pine Knowles and love there..
