FYI, West Marine has the Kingfish on sale for $400 now. I got one last year as my intro kayak to see if I like fishing from one, and love it. Seems like a bit of a slow boat, but does fine by me and has held up well so far. Nice fishing layout and I didn't get anxious about screwing it up when outfitting it (like I would have with a high dollar kayak). I do wonder how much better the Tarpon's and Redfish's are I read so much about.

Yeah, you are right, the Kingfish is quite slow compared to most fishing kayaks. I got it as my first yak and have done fairly well with it. It is really stable with its hull design but does not cut through waves well. Im teaching my girlfriend yak'n with it while i use a Islander moku that i picked up cheap. I think its good to learn using something like the kingfish cause its cheap and when you do upgrade you will know exactly what you want your yak to be and will be able to paddle the hell out of it after all that workout in the kingfish! Im going to let my girlfriend pick wich one she wants to keep and im trading the other in on a prowler15 soon.

My thoughts exactly. I'm happy with the Mainstream purchase, have had a ball with it, and learned a hell of a lot with it. BTY, fished the James River in Richmond yesterday afternoon with it and got 2 smallmouth, a 2 lb. channel cat, and a 7 lb blue cat - all on flies!.

Marshall, what made you decide on the Prowler vs. a Tarpon or Redfish?

Bob,
Dont get me wrong, I would take either of those kayaks. The prowler 15 is just the one that I have been given a lot of testimony on and have been able to take out. I dont know exactly what I will end up getting when it comes right down to it or if I will just keep what I have for now. I got to hit the lottery before I can do anything!!
