How challenging is it to go kayak fishing in the Honga River, specifically the cut at Wroten Island. I've heard that the tidal currents can make it a hard place to fish from a small craft.

Your question is wide open, and could depend on various factors, such as the kayak you will use, how you might have it rigged, and your experience level. Any tidal waters with strong currents, no matter where they are, will be challenging in a small craft.

John Veil, a very active member here, may be able to give you some good tips, as he fishes various waters from a kayak and has a lot of experience.

Are you interested in catching specific fish species, or just to go fish in general?

I had fished in various waters on the eastern shore, from both a Gheenoe & a jon boat, and current & wind was always something that I had to deal with.

There is certainly some waters there that may be far better suited for kayaks, and fishing from them, than other waters.

But your question may not have a simple answer to it, other than small crafts & strong currents are problematic, particularly with wind.

I've fished in some of those creeks in the very upper end of the Honga, and the current can be very strong, and dangerous. That never kept me from going there, but sometimes it was best to find a spot out of the main current and wait, even in the jon boat with a motor. I paddled the Gheenoe, and that wasn't always easy to do.
