Maybe the Administrators of TF can set up a fund via Paypal or something similiar for the families of the fishermen lost yesterday. They will have to worry about transportation logistics, burial, etc. Instead of a lot of you stating the obvious, such as what they should/shouldn't have done, maybe as fellow fisherman, we can give a few dollars to help out their families. My thoughts are with them and their families. As one of the Maryland launchman stated yesterday, when someone on the water is in trouble you help them no matter what or why.

Just an idea, I know I'd be willing to help out.

Stay safe.

I tried an email contacting the Adminstrator today, but I have yet to hear from them. If anyone knows how to get in touch with them that would be great.

Great idea.

There is a possibility that some of the folks on the boat are members of TidalFish.

One of of the guys who worked on a couple of them when they got them out of the water posted in the "Todays accident/ Boat pictures" thread that I started yesterday.

His name is bandaid. Here is what he said.

"I had the opportunity to participate in the care of the two Anglers who were flown to Norfolk General's ER. I'd like to state that the combined efforts of the Pilot vessel crews, Coasties and the amazing ER staffs at SNGH and VBGH we were able to get the patients re-warmed quickly and avoid any additional fatalities than those reported. A few points of interest for those with some medical background. The respective initial core body temperatures between the two victims we treated was 94F and 84F. The individual with the higher temp was about 10 yrs. younger and 100lbs heavier. Bear huggers, heat lamps, continuous bladder irrigation and warmed continuous positive pressure ventilation by CPAP seemed to do the trick in the sicker patient. Cardiac monitoring was initially impossible due to the amount of shivering. Lab findings were all essentially normal except for serum bicarbonate levels that reflected an acidosis and corrected with warming. Irrigation of the stomach with an NGT was not fruitful in that introduction of warm saline caused immediate vomiting prompting us to remove the NGT an avoid any compromise to a stable airway. Normalization of temp. in the sicker victim took about 4 hours and was w/o complication. At 15:00 hrs the sicker patient was normothermic and ready for admission to a non-ICU bed. His colleague was able to be discharged from the ED to the care of his family.

I was a privilege to take care of these anglers who told me they were big fans of TF and in particular, this message board. They are avid fishermen and have been fishing together in their words..."for a hundred years" I remain humbled by their (and others) accounts of how quickly things can go to **** out there. I anticipate hearing from these guys in the future and wish them and their families Godspeed towards a full recovery".

I think anyone can go to a bank and open an account for the family. Im not sure of the details but I think its a simple procedure. Im sure the banks deal with this type of thing regularly. Count me in as I hope this would be done for my wife and sons.
