That's ridiculous!! Why wouldnt they dump them back in the water so that some could have a chance any the rest would have gone back into the ecosystem

I've seen dead crabs dumped there but hard to believe any one would dump live ones.

Guy I saw last year was from local restaurant and said the 3-4 bushel of dead ones were die off from about 100 bushels they had steamed.

Not sure where all the ones in the above story came from - crazy.

Had a crab wholesaler tell me today most of the big crab houses dump 100 bushels a week in landfills or in their dumpster! That seems like a lot but I'm sure there is a ton of waste in the crab houses.

It happens more that you think. . Some places that have a reputation for large , expensive crabs , would rather throw away small, light crabs than serve them.The average death rate on crabs can be between between 10- 20 %, especially for crabs shipped in from the south.
