Hey all,

Does CHIRP and side scan sonar work in creeks and rivers where you're running in 2-3 feet of water?

Thanks,

I don't know about CHIRP but my side scan is almost useless in 2-3 feet of water because the cone has nowhere to shoot.

When I first got a scan I was hoping I could see fish on pilings in shallow water but it's not to be. You need about 6 plus feet to see fish on side scan on the pilings.

My understanding is that the biggest plus for CHIRP is that is shows better resolution, which is to say makes it easier to discern the spaces between fish and the bottom and individual fish, groups of fish, or other targets. In 3' of water that becomes an irrelevant entity.
Side scan needs some depth to send out a signal to the side and get an image that can be interpreted.
