Hello, I never fished the offshore wrecks before for seabass and other fish around the wrecks. Just got a new Parker and would like to take her out there..Problem is I never did it before. Can someone tell me what I need to do? Bait, hooks, rigs, what wrekcs to go to. Thanks Anthony.

I did deep dropping recently off Hatteras and we limited out on tilefish with some sea bass and grouper mixed in. We took turns with the electric reel using cut bait at 400 ft. depths. 100-130 lb. braided line because of the weight required to take it down and the time required to pull them up really gives you a workout without some power assistance. We were catching fast and furious so it would not be so bad when things are slower. Jim

To start with, a wreck anchor with a lot of rope. Protect the rope from chaffing by threading it thru a several foot long piece of 3/4" garden hose where it attaches to the anchor or better yet to the chain on the anchor. Expect to lose a lot of bottom rigs, so, tie them up the night before venturing out. Make your own bottom rigs by tieing a droppler loop(s) for the hooks and a perfection loop for the lead weight--40lb test works well. Attach prepared, snelled hooks to the droppler loops. No point in buying anything expensive as you are going to lose a lot. Go to "Chumlord Fishing" web page for detailed pod casts as to how to tie the rigs.

Also, recommend that you go out with another (buddy) boat, as the wrecks ae generally well offshore.
