Been Having Terrible Pains for about 6 days in my abdomen to the point that I had to pull over on the side of 97 and have someone drive me to a doctor today. After a few exams they figured it was Prostatitus. Not fun at all!!! Since Im pretty young for having so many problems with my Health they are gonna take me to a school for doctors in that area to have students and Doctors put me through tests for half the cost of seeing a specialist.

Now whats gonna happen. I have Pancreaitis, Prostatitis, and a bad liver...For someone who never drinks, Smoke, Eat fast food, And drink Soda, Im in some bent up shape. Does Anyone else have any Prostate problems that could let me know a few things about it. I don't understand Doctors!

So it's back to not working again and I can't even fish..........

Prostatitis is an infection of the prostate gland. At the risk of oversimplifying, it should be treatable with an antibiotic. It would be a very good idea to get examined by a trained urologist to accurately identify what condition you have and be able to explain future courses of action.

There are several informative and easy-to-understand books about prostate health issues written by a Dr. Walsh from Johns Hopkins. I encourage you to get hold of those and learn a bit more about the prostate gland and its issues.

As you might guess, I faced serious prostate problems not too long ago. In 2005. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, chose to have my prostate removed, and now am cancer-free.

Nothing like walking around feeling like you took a lacrosse ball to the nuts, eh? Most likely you'll get a round of Cypro(the stuff they give ya for anthrax), and that should wipe it out quick. Steer clear of caffiene, too. I went thru this a few years ago, and it is no fun. Wiped caffiene out of the diet, and that seems to have kept things stable ever since. Good Luck ...

Good luck, Moses. I had prostatitis for over a year. Got it from llama piss, but that's another story. I never had the sharp pains you describe, but it was always a miserable dull ache. I went through about 5 rounds of antibiotics before I finally found the right one to kick it. Make sure they start you on the strongest one possible, otherwise you just build up immunity as you go up the ladder. Also, make sure they do a PSA test right away. Sorry to hear of your troubles.

Do some searching on mayoclinic.com or medlineplus.gov. Both are very respectable sources, and everything is written in relatively plain English. Here's the page from the Mayo clinic on prostatitis Prostatitis - MayoClinic.com . Keep asking questions of the doctors and make them explain until you understand. (Easy for me to say since I'm not in your shoes, but I have a long-standing habit of questioning authority.) Doctors always push my wife around, which burns me up. Using the websites I mentioned and a couple others, my wife figured out she was vitamin-B deficient before her doctor did.

Sorry to Hear It Because It Sucks!!

I got it a couple of times and my daughter in law gets it often. I think my daughter in law gets hers from acidic drinks and stress. I get when I drink too much coffee during the morning, diet soda during the day and beer in the evening.

So I limit my coffee intake, eliminated all sodas or acidic beverages during the day, drink water instead and keep the beer to one or two an evening. Since I made the change, it has never come back.

Good Luck,

Prostatitis is a usually painful condition of the prostate gland, the small walnut-shaped organ that lies just below a man's bladder. The prostate gland produces most of the fluid in semen.

Often the cause of prostatitis is not known. Many men with prostatitis have no signs of inflammation, so no exact cause can be determined. Prostatitis may be caused by an infection or by inflammation not related to infection. It may be acute (short-term) or chronic (long-term).

Symptoms of prostatitis include:

An urge to urinate often but passing only small amounts of urine; feeling an urgent need to urinate; a burning sensation when urinating; and the inability to empty the bladder completely.
Difficulty starting urination, interrupted flow (urinating in waves instead of in a steady stream), weaker-than-normal urine flow, and dribbling after urinating.
Pain or discomfort in the lower back; in the area between the scrotum and the anus; in the lower abdomen, scrotum, or upper thighs; or above the pubic area.
Excessive urinating at night.
Prostate pain or vague discomfort on ejaculation.
Treatment for prostatitis varies according to the cause. In many cases, medication is needed.
