Do any of you fishermen out there know anything about G&G portable boat lifts?? I want to lift my boat off the trailer in order to bottom paint it. Googled for info and came across the G&G portable. Looks decent as you can lift a boat off a trailer in a matter of minutes and access the bottom for maintenance. Does anyone have a different yet safe way to accomplish this without going to a marina for a haul out?? All constructive comments greatly appreciated. THX

I used an engine hoist and a floor jack to lift my 19 ft Robalo off the trailer and put it on stands to paint the entire boat. Don't know how big your boat is but if you only need to paint the bottom a floor jack and engine hoist should do it. you only need to lift it a few inches right???

I've done this with up to a 22' CHawk. Put the trailer tongue on the ground. Put blocks with wood to protect bottom at stern (carefully and safely). Pick up the tongue and the hoist it up. Then paint what you can, lower, remove blocks, and paint hull under blocks.

You can also block the sides and let the tongue down again.

Do it under a tree. Tie bow eye to tree and jack it up with come along. remove trailer, block front, paint......

If you are near someone with a tractor/bucket, jack up back end as above and pickup bow with bucket.

Hope this helps.

10-4 Dal.

My dad rented a Bobcat to do some stuff in the backyard and I took the time to be able to put a sling around the transom and lift the back of the boat up, then, put a sling aorund the front and loft the bow up.

It was pretty easy

If your trailer has rollers you don't have to remove the boat to get the job done.Sand and paint the boat bottom and get as close to the rollers as you can. After drying hook up a couple of lines to the stern of the boat and attach to another truck or some other object like a tree.Hook up your trailer to your truck and loosen up the winch about 18 inches.Pull your trailer forward from under the boat till the unpainted area is exposed.Sand and paint whats left. When dry winch back forward. This I believe this is a very safe way to do it.It works great for me. Good Luck

Could you put blocks under the boat and just let the air out of the tires? It wouldn't give you much room but may be enough to get a paint brush in. If you needed more room between trailer and boat you could take the wheels off the trailer while the boat is on the blocks and lower the trailer.

I used this method last year, on a 20' boat, worked very well, and was very safe.

Have done this with a 23' Parker so I could work on a (roller) trailer, while it was still under the boat. If you're on a roller trailer, may or may not work to paint bottom too. Don't know if this procedure would work with a bunk trailer. Lower tongue completely and carefully stack cinder blocks, with wood between boat and blocks, under the chines on both sides of the transom. Jack tongue up as far as it will go. Do it slowly. When all the way up, place supports under keel. Lower the trailer tongue until boat is free from the trailer rollers. Paint all exposed areas, let it down on the trailer, and finish off where the supports were.

As a matter of safety and precaution, I was real careful that I didn't put myself, or any body parts, between where boat could fall and crush anything. That was easy for me to do when working on the trailer, because I could work from the ground up. Not so sure it's as easy when sanding and painting a boat bottom.

Thanks to all for the responses and advice. I will try the method using boat jacks instead of blocks at the stern, should work fine. BigwillJ thanks for clarifying the steps to doing this.

Wondering if any one on TF has ever used one of the G&G portables. They show a video of it in use at portableboatlift.com to completely lift a boat off from a trailer, gives access to the entire bottom.
