Shamelessly stealing my idea for this post from Dr. Neill's recent Hatteras jigging post... I have noticed more and more jigs catching a larger class of fish. This is Capt. Danny Davis with a Mandy Pepperidge P-I-G on a jig he "borrowed" from either Capt. Darren or Sean (one of the two peas from the pod) on a trip on Tuesday. Always looking for a way to catch bigger fish - JIG A PIG!

Gotta love gettin' jiggy w/ it ! ;-) We made white diamond jig shaped jigs thinkin' they would catch like squid ? :wacko: Boy were we wrong ? :yes: White rarely if ever got bit compared to traditional steel colored jigs ? For some reason I guess white doesn't look sexy in the deep ? :nono: Just thought I'd throw that out there Captain , didn't mean to get your :jackthread:;-) Good luck when you go :fishing2: again ...:thumbup:

Jim, no, That was before I started bumming jigs off Darren and Sean... I think was my last 7.5oz. chesapeake, and I wasnt about to drop my abyss and williamsons on that snaggy S.O.B.


And I agree, jigs catch the bigger bass pretty consistantly... plus you can use alot lighter tackle that traditional deep drop bottom rigs.


Ps... yeah, before anyone says it....I took the snapswivel off, didnt really matter that day, It was a pretty good bite.

Its way to slow. Its exceptable for seabass and triggers in the deep, but not quick enough for a tuna bite or anything with any real size on it, a 15 pound bluefish is a workout on that outfit. Im upgrading to a Saltist or Torium 20 before and a proper jigging rod before I go again.

Awe come on Danny. It's no worse than me jigging with a 320 and a Penn Jigmaster stick. Other than slow and heavy, I like the action on it with those 200 gram jigs. I for a slightly used Trevala F you might be interested in. If you want a he man rod give me a call, I have a line one some really nice ones.

Nice sea bass! I'm looking forward to using a bunch of new jigs for deep drop. Hopefully we get a good bite this weekend offshore.
