how do you determine who is closest to 50 lbs? wehen there is 16 ounces in a pound 49.9lbs is 7ounces from 50 and 50.32 is 3.2 onces from 50 so shouldnt 50.32 be the winner?

The scale is not "pounds and ounces" it is "pounds and .00/100" of a pound. Thus 0.10 is 1.6 ounces. 0.30 is 4.8 ounces.

This scale reads to two decimal places or 100th of a pound. If it read pounds and ounces it would be only 1/16 of a pound.

If we were using an "ounce" scale I would have written it differently. Example: 49 lb 14.4 ounces would equal 49.9 pounds.
