What happens if the operator, while driving, hit a wave (or something else)which knocks him away from the steering and he is unable to get back up?
(Broken leg, knocked-out, etc) The boat keeps going unmanned? (I guess in the broken leg scenerio if he still had his wits he could throw the transmitter in the water maybe.) With the "wired" tether the motor shuts down. Just doesn't seem as safe. IMHO

How about the "knocked out" scenerio. Anything there?
It must be winter...

You could what-if this situation to death.
If you don't like the AutoTether, wear your leash.
If you don't like being restricted by a leash, try an AutoTether.

BTW - When was the last time you were knocked out while at the wheel?

For the "knocked out" scenario you can have a Brain wave indicator installed... Its a little more money, but worth the piece of mind.... Mike Rose, I left the door wide open for you brother... Take it from here.

Nice thing about this one is that you can get transmitters for passengers ... especially good for pets or children or maybe drunk relatives. ;-)

I remember a panpan call last year about a dog that had gone overboard and the people didn't notice for a while.

And Mike wonders why I don't offer opinions or suggestions on here.... I guess if you're not in the "Click" your opinions don't matter...just try google and see how many article there are on boat operators being knocked out

Now I see why Mike researched and found these

Lighten up buddy . You don't need to be such a naysayer . It's winter and people are bored and breaking the monotony with a little humor .

I don't think the point is that its a safer alternative than a regular lanyard. Of course your regular lanyard could get wrapped around the suicide knob on your wheel as you were making an emergency turn prior to getting knocked out, ripping you belt loop off! Or the plastic on the clip could break as you fell at a weird angle... or who knows what. I think the point of this device is for all of us that don't regularly wear a lanyard. I personally only used to use my lanyard on the worst of days or at night. Its hard to take a leak off the side of the boat with your lanyard on. With my autotether I actually use it every time I'm on the boat. So it might not be the better alternative in that freak chance I get knocked out at the wheel (probably by my wife!), but it is a better alternative for the other 99% of the time that I otherwise would not be wearing a lanyard. We do sell them, but I am responding as a fellow boater that uses one.
