I have been tossing around moving my boat from the Lower Rapp to Lake Anna and wanted some thoughts. I do fish, but not a whole lot, so it wouldnt be 100% about fishing. But, what kind of fish can you get there and is Lake Anna big enough where you don't feel so confined?

Any marinas that have covered wet slips that have electric you can stay the night?

I kind of got fed up with driving 1hr from Richmond and finding the Rapp too rough to pleasure boat, so I'm thinking a lake might be more enjoyable for the family.

Lake Anna is, or was, one of the B.A.S.S. tournament lakes.
Huge bass.
You might dip your boat in rubber before taking it to fend off all the water skiiers and jet skiiers that will be bouncing off the hull of your boat. A few of the boaters on the water will be reasonably sober if have a run in early enough in the morning, say befre 9:00. :D The lake is absolutely huge but you'll still feel confiined during the summer just because of the number of boats on the water but most aren't there to fish.
A former co-worker of mine water skis Anna every weekend during the summer but he's on the water early and off the water by the time the tourists get out of their bunks.

I've fished lake anna since the early 80's when I was a Bass fisherman , the Bass Fishing can be good but I gave it up because oa all the Hard headed So called Bass Pro's who thought they owned the lake .. Since then I started for Stripers , Crappie and Cats.. which all can be caught at anytime of the year.. Right now they are trolling in the lake for Stripers and some venture to the Dikes for Walleye this time fo year...

High Point Marina is a good chioce , they have a plenty of room to store your boat and are always willing to give tips where to go and what to do.. If you have any questions call John Chaddock at High point Marina , he works there and is a part time guide and long time friend .. He tells me where and how to get into the Stripers and he's damn good on Water there..

It can be crowded and yes there are a lot of Drinkers out there too but where canyou go that it's not that way..

June and July are Hot there for Stripers , I take off the week of July 4th and fish all around the crazies and still catch my limit with in site of My hotel room half the time.

There is a Hotel right on the water ,, Nothing fancy just gets you on the water early and has a Johnny crapper and a tv ...

As metnioned above You must be careful there are some Unmarked shallows , all in all I really love that lake now

thanks for the information. I have a friend who has a place there and two summers ago he couldnt get his boat off his lift due to it being so shallow. Ive heard it gets kind of crowded, didnt know it was that bad as some of you all portray. I might have to rent a boat and go explore this summer just to get a first hand look.
