Well they launched a joint task force assault today on the Rockfish criminals. They used Helicopters, Boats, Cars & Trucks. They caught a few people. I saw 8 heavily armed officers on one boat. Looked like they were ready to fight a war. The law is the law and I respect that. But the state and federal authorities spending 100s of thousands of dollars to catch a few guys catching a fish over a line is part of the reason the economy is in the toilet and the country is in massive debt.

The law is the law. The people fishing outside of the allowed lines should be punished and if it takes the boats they have prepared for Homeland security to address this issue, so be it. I would assume that the people fishing outside the limits are too lazy to learn how to deal with the wonderful fishing to be had inside those lines. We all would love to fish wherever we want but too many times I have been on the 3 mile line and watched and listened to the fleet, and I mean fleet, 5 plus miles offshore 'tearin up' fish.
As far as the monies it takes to patrol this line...If everyone obeyed the law, there wouldn't be a need to patrol the limits would it?
Let's be real here. Like it or not, we have this great fishery because of laws and limits that were set a while back. If we don't watch it, we could all be watching TV instead of fishing during the winter months...
Sorry, you pinched a nerve.

So Ric, what would you say about them considering extending the line out to 12 miles next year. I guess this years crininals would be legal next year and all the money spent was really for nothing.

The reason for this is there are so many folks out there who have no idea what a Limit is, I don't speaka no english is gettig pretty old... Time to step it up afterall looking at all these messages about how good the fishing has been and how big the fish are and everone is enjoying catching them , eeling , trolling jigging... its a blast I think the Law is only trying to keep it this way... We all remember the 70's and early 80's when
the Stripers were just about depleted from the bay .. My Guess is they are trying to avoid that all over again... Keeping what we are allowed to vs keeping what we can get away with it 2 different species of Fisherman...

I applaud them if they are getting the Crooks off the water ,, afterall they are real Crooks if you think about it..

[Jiji Press English News Service] - January 2, 2009 -... According to the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization, about a half of the world's fishery stocks have been exploited beyond the limits of sustainable use, while a quarter are threatened.

Global consumption of fish products has more than tripled in the last 40 years. 'Demand is rapidly expanding because of increasing health awareness among Westerners and China's economic growth,' a Japanese Fisheries Agency official said.

In December, an international tuna stock management group, the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission, decided to considerably cut catches of bigeye tuna, which is traditionally popular among Japanese...

I was at the dock also when the escorted vessel was brought in. I for one am glad that the enforcement people made an example out of this guy. I saw the CG taking pictures etc..... I later heard the guy tried to out run the NC Marine Patrol and they called the CG. , with the aid a helicopter they caught him. If the man had let the NC guys board him, I think he would not have been escorted back. I believe that the amount force shown was because he allegedly ran. With that said a law is a law.. brake it you pay the price. These out of state charter boats are making a name for themselves..both good and bad. They are excellent fisherman, but to many of them are going overboard and catching a limit and strutting around the dock saying " look what I caught". When some of us are doing it right and not finding the results that they are. If they can't do it by the rules then they have not warranted themselves as good fisherman just law breakers. Lets see you "big time boys" stay within the 3 mile limit then show us your catch and I'll say good job and not alway wounder was he overboard... because right now thats what people think... was he legal? I wounder?

There is a way to EARN money the legal way and the wrong way...It doesn't make it right!! I guess a Wall Street Broker, such as Madoff, who trying to make his clients "happy" is right to do it? Thats my point

What do you mean actually happen. Wall Street Broker, Bernard Madoff illegally lost his clients 50 billion dollars trying to earn money and make his clients happy...at the same-time was parading around Wall Street saying how great he was as a investor. These Capt's. are the same equivalent of a Madoff.... legally catching fish to make money and their clients happy. The more they put on the dock the more charters they get. Same as Madoff the more he made the more people wanted to invest.

Striper crooks get off easy. If you break the federal waterfowl and migratory game laws, fines start at $500 and go up to jail, losing hunting privaledges for 3 years, taking your guns, boats, trucks. mess with the feds and go to jail

Well, we're spending a lot of energy on this one. BUT, if a cop catches me for speeding, which I have done, I' not going to try to outrun him. Plus, I don't drive with the intention to speed, this capt. made a calulated desicion to break the law, and probably does it as often as he can get away with it.
Bottom line, he should spend his energy and money (that he will undoubtably pay in fines) to get the law changed if he is not happy. In the mean time, obey the law and be a good and ETHICAL fisherman.
