This has just been a tough year for myself and my closest fishing buddies. So I wanted the three of us to get out for an escape and get out in the ocean for a crack at some cows in the ocean. We planned to head out on monday morning and wouldn't you know it, Troy aka "Dorkfish" had to cancel to attend a funeral. So satterly and I forged on and left Glouchester Point at 6:30. As the seas kept growing I kept thinking to myself, " I'm putting a lot of faith in the forecast". We finally got the lines in at 8 and cut the spread back to 6 lines due to the tough conditions. after about 45 minutes of sniffing around we hit paydirt, 200ft line goes down hard. After what seemed to be an eternity we had a fat 42" on the deck. My confidence grew and we stuck the other 2 deep lines out and the magic spread started to do it's thing. By 11:30 we were done with 3 fish over 40" and a 32".

We decided to do the responsible thing and pull up the trolling gear and not to harm any fish for our enjoyment by CnR. We did do a little jigging without success while the seas continued to flatten. We have been in some pretty big seas before and there were some Holy S#!T moments staring back at some large walls of water. All in all it was a great day and we will be returning to the beach very soon.

I think we saw you just south of Cape Henry. We were on a nice comfortable Evans 38. You guys in smaller boats looked like you were in a washing machine at times, but those sure were nice fish. Our largest weighed 38 lbs. I assume your trip home was a lot more comfortable after the seas laid down. Congratulations on not doing the catch and release. All of the big fish are full of roe and it would be good to leave a few uninjured to make lots of baby rockfish for coming years.
