No need to spend the $$ on Fluoro.... I use 80lb mono, and crimp ends. I often fish alone, and have found that if needed, I can hoist a large fish over the gunnel by the leader, and can also more easily "re-crimp" while tending to the rest of my responsibilities (driving the boat, slugging my coffee, etc :D). Not to mention that these fish are chasing groups of bait being dragged by large gauge stainless steel umbrella frames... these are not leader shy fish. IMHO fluoro is absolutely unnecessary for bay fishing.

I use a 6'(#80 mono) leader from the braid(double uni) to a coastlock. This gives me something to hold on to w/out cut'n up my hands to control the fish at the boat. The coastlock snaps to the inline weight that goes to a double coastlock that connects to the umb. A #60 leader goes from the umb(coastlock)to a chute(loop knot). To land the fish, I grab the head of the chute to hoist the fish on board.

I usually use flourocarbon on board rods. These are only in 2-10 feet in the water, single or double baits, and I think the flourocarbon makes a difference.

For boat rods and umbrellas I just use mono. I don't think it matters.

I use 60 lb Ande clear in spring /late fall-winter for big Rock.
Summer I like either 40 or 30 for trolling.
For Macks I'll go to 20
Livelining I like 30 lb.

Keep the 1/4 lb spool in a beverage cozy and write the lb test with marker on it.The cozy keeps the sun off the line plus keeps it from unraveling if dropped.Pull the spool out now/then to see how much is left.

I was using 60 lb. Ande but this fall switched to 80 lb. Ande with crimps and have been very happy with the ease of rigging, re-rigging and, of course, lack of break-offs.

For you guys that are crimping is there a certain brand crimps and crimping tool you are using? How do you not over crimp mono?

Thanks Charlie
There is a gauge on the crimpers to the size line you are crimping. When you put the crimp in the correct hole it will only compress so far. Make sure whatever line you get you match the crimp size to that. It will tell you on the crimp bag what size line they work on. There are many different crimpers, dont get the cheap ones. Buy the 30 or so dollar pair one time and be done!
