If going with mono you would be fine with 30#. A lot of people use 40# mono year round. For braid you could use a top shot of 50#, especially on the 330, and still use it for spring/fall trolling. I use 30# mono on my Penn 209's for planer boards in the spring and summertime trolling as well.

I was thinking like 50# braid too be safe. I am new at this trolling for rock. Should I put backing line and how much can I put on a 220?
Are you talking about a 220 GTO ? What's that hold , about 320 yds of 20# ? I've seen those reels but never used them and I'm not sure if I would even spool them with braid . Maybe just go with 30lb mono . As Greg mentioned , it's hard to beat Momoi Diamond . Sufix makes a good mono as well .

The real beauty of braid is it's thin diameter.I use 50 lb braid on my Penn 320 LD's and it is great.Perfect for springtime with singles off the boards or a single back 200 feet.

In summer - they work fine with 4-8 oz in lines or #1 planers.

I like to use 300 feet of braid on top of mono.Spools come in 300 yds so I get three reels top shotted this way.
