I was on another board and found this and felt we should try and send out some letters to NMFS to be heard. We have a sword fishery now and should try and keep it strong. We say we want to keep our fishery then let's take 5 minutes and show our support by action.

Here is a form letter to copy to a word processor application.

Michael,

I am responding to a request by the Blue Water Fisherman's Association to open existing closed fisheries to long lining. Long lining has been a huge killer of many species other than their expected catch. To open another area for this would be a decrease in a fishery that is already struggling to rebound. This is not for research but for gaining access to another fishery which they see has rebounded and a gold mine.

Please keep this area closed so our Children and Grand Children will be able to actually try and catch a Swordfish or Blue Fin Tuna instead of them reading about them in a book on how they became extinct due to over fishing.

Please deny this application and keep it closed!!!!

Sincerely,
