My older mono Lowrance 480 LMS has been working on/off for me for the last two years and last year it crapped out for good so I'm looking into a new color unit. I think I'd prefer to stay away from Lowrance this time around being the unit only worked for me three years and they support and parts center did not impress me either.

Any suggestions. I'd like to keep the new unit's price under $1300.00 I do want to get a good one, perhaps a lagrer screen, perhaps a Furuno unit.

Any suggestions on a food one. I will only be using it for bay fishing. I currently have a transom mounted transducer but open to what ever I need to do to upgrade.

I'll probably shop at BOE unless I hear there are good deals elsewhere.

Suggestions ????

B-Faithful,

I hear ya on your suggestion, I read the other thread on that unit but, I do not have room for 5-feet for that antenna to be swinging around but my main reason why I'd rather not go that route is, my last unit was pretty much obsolete when I bought it, once a part broke on it, I had a heck of a time getting the new part through Lowrance.

I second the remanufactured recommendation. I bought a remanufactured Raymarine high def FF unit last year, saved about 40-50% and haven't had a lick of trouble with it. Came in a factory sealed box, works great, everything looked brand spanking new. I think Raymarine has the nicest looking LCDs personally, but that's just me. Garmin makes some real nice units too.
