The only day we were able to get out was Friday with the winds picking up. We left Hillsboro at 5:30 and looked for weeds up to 15 miles out. After not finding anything, we came back in to 300' and found some Sails jumping but weren't trying to target them. After about 3 hours of looking we finally found some weeds about 8 miles out and trolled Jap feathers for our 1st hook up. After finding the weeds, we on the fish for the rest of the day. They were all about 5 to 8 lbs and landed one nice cow that was 20 lbs. Came back in with our limit at around 2 pm. If you can find the weeds, you will find the fish. they are out there tight now and will hit anything you throw at them.

Nice report. I've watched a few shows and they look like a fun fish to fight. Maybe some day I'll get down that way and give it a try.
Once you find them in the weeds, troll black and red feather and some hoos and you will get them.
Great report. Why did you pass up the sails? I only ask because I am in Maryland and it is 35 degrees out. We get to think of fishing or go and freeze for 1-20 pound stripers. Good work on the mahi!

Captain Jim,
We passed on the sails because not really having a lot of experience fishing for them, we didn't want to pass on a good mahi bite. BTW, I live in Alexandria VA and work in DC so I know what you mean brother. My friend I grew up with moved tto Pompano Beach a year ago and bought a boat 6 months and I try to make it down once a month to fish. All in all it is not too expensive. Airfare in aroun $200 and I have a place to stay and we spend maybe a $100 each on gas ice and bait. Down there, 90% of your fishing is within sight of the shore so you dont burn a lot of gas.

I might be switching boards. What I mean is the company is toying with the idea of shipping me down to Jacksonville or Ft. Lauderdale (where I lived for 25 years). Im happy as hell to get out of the "2nd mopst dangerous city in America" and I can use my new boat year round.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM......FLORIDA!!!!!!!

Taking my first trip to the keys (Islamorada) in March....I may just take the "Office Space" approach and not come back!

I feel your pain....I only lasted 8 months up there in Alexandria. I moved as far south as my company would let me.

But just remember,

Adam,
If I were you, I would take a fish to work, plop it down on your desk and gut it over some newspspers. Then head to Florida with an attitude of you just dont care and I will be right behind you in a couple of months. I've been looking for about a month now. I think I have an opportunity in the Boca area. We'll see

Lazzo
Lazzo,

That would make for a great story wouldn't it!?!?! haha. Most days at work are spent in a daze thinking about somewhere off-shore. If I had the opportunity I would head down there and not come back...I will be looking for that at the Miami Boat Show... trying to land a career as a Manufacturers Rep for a good line.
Good Luck on getting down there! all I can say is I'm Jelous!

Take Care,
