This past weekend we caught a fairly large rock and debated if it was a male or female. The size indicated a female. When we held it up for pictures a ton of gray substance (Sure looked like milt) came out all over the deck. I've always thought that was a sign it was a male. Any thoughts if we just had an unusually large male, or do females discharge anything? Thanks, Dave

Gray likely was poop.

A male will squirt white milt ( sperm ).

I've caught males at 41 inches - trust me , there was no doubt. Heard of males up to 44 inches - however that was second hand info.

There is a really good reply with "identifies as" and North Carolina in it, but I'm just not in the mood.

I've only seen a handful of males over 40", they are rare.
