Wondering if anyone is running GPS on Linux?
I recently installed Ubuntu 8.10 on a laptop and am searching for advice as to what works/not.
Helpful would be inexpensive GPS reciever info.
Also what software/nautical chart maps work? Looking for a native application, dont want to bother running a windows program thru wine.

Any problems or special config needed?

Wish they had a java serial port library as I'd incorporate a GPS into my sea surface temp mapping. I could show your boat position relative to temp breaks, what an awesome capability. Unfortuately as of a yr ago no library was available and I'm not going to write it!! I say this relative to Linux as java is a strong language on that platform and the swing library implements the graphical UI.
