Update: Mariner Point Park

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Great news. They have posted the new regulations for launching @ Mariner Point Park. Maryland Residents remain free of any cost

Effective May 1, 2009. All out of state residents must pay @ 15.00 launching fee every time they launch. I just read the sign this morning. It looks like there will be a gate and they will have someone collecting the money.

This applies to anyone that has a boat that is not registered in Maryland or there tow vehicle that has out of state license plates. They will be designated to there own parking lot in the back of the park and will have to walk.

Parking lot A which is the one right next to the building is for Md. residents only.

I hope that other places like the WYE RIVER and CHESTER RIVER follow there lead.

Again this should help with the overcrowding and the issues @ Mariner Point Park.

I'm sure your Drivers License will determine? Why do people use Maine tags to save a few dollars, what a joke.

I don't even use the ramp. I use the marina. I keep my bigger boat there, so I can launch my jon boat whenever I want for free:thumbup:

Agree there will be some serious lines if they go with a gate instead of a drop box!

If it is a gate, forget those early launches. Or maybe that just impacts out of state and not MD tags??

Either way it is a huge step in the right direction to manage the resource and provide some "perk" to those who pay for it.

If I went out of state, I would expect and have no issue paying additional fees above and beyond those paid by the residents of the state. I would also not be surprised or upset if my catch limits, etc... were limited.

using Maine tags has nothing too do with saving a few bucks,it has everything too do with not paying(what works out to be extortion fees) for the maryland plates.I understand MD raising the cost, but to double it all at once was just legalized stealing. Its more principle than saving a few bucks.

They should do this for all the public ramps in the state, not just Mariner point. Rather than furloughing state employees and cutting services in the current financial crisis, there is no better time than now to shift the financial burden to out of staters. That is a no brainer.

Gotta disagree. I had a couple of trips planned to launch from DE this past fall but their fishing license fee and public ramp fees had me decide to make trips elsewhere. Being that weather is a factor for future trips I didnt want to take on those taxes/fees and end up only taking one trip. It is too bad for local businesses too because I am sure I would have eaten at a local restaurant, filled up with fuel, and probably bought bait/eels from a local tackle shop. Due to the fees, the state and local businesses lost.

Thanks for the info Phil. I missed getting out fishing with you last year. Let's not let that happen again this year!
I'll be in touch.
