I can not figure out why since the Md and Va. bay sport boat license is reciprocal, why are they not the same price?

Md. - $50.00
Va. - $37.50

Just bought my Va. license on-line. When it was only a 2 dollar difference I could justify the Md. license, but not now.

You could save a few bucks more by buying a Potomac River license, good in both VA and Md Ches Bay. I agree it would be sensible if VA, Md, and Potomac licenses cost the same. and even more logical if fishing rules and seasons were uniform throughout the bay.

just bought my md boat fishing license...as stated , it was 50 bucks.. last time i buy it in md, as most of my feeshing is being done in va waters.
i rememer warning all my friends back years ago when md instated the saltwater feeshing licensing program. and my warning has come to totalfruition.
this just one reason i'm looking to move to delaware!

Just be prepared to get checked more by DNR :D.

That is strange that there are three different prices.Give it one-two years and Va and Potomac will raise their prices.

Personally I do not need a fishing license since my crabbing LCC license allows me (individually) the same
privileges as does the $50.00 boat license, however, having the boat license is a burden off my back when I have a guest on board fishing. I don't have to ask if he/she has a tidal fishing license. I already know the answer and it's usually not positive.

So, I fork over the buck$ for their benefit and my piece of mind. What it comes down to is my cost is the equivalent to a half bushel of crabs that I harvest from the same waters. Fair trade.

Skip,
VA license has been less than MD for many years, however, I don't doubt they will all be the same (outrageously higher) price in the future. :-(
Why does that surprise you? MD has been a higher tax and spend State for decades. They buy more votes with handouts than VA.

Polecat, how do you go about getting the Delaware boat registration? Thanks
Although I have several boats, none of them are registered in DE. One might be in the future, but currently it is not.

Maryland law dictates that a boat must be registered in the state of principal use. If you own a boat that you use to fish in DE with most of the time, then it should, by MD law, be registered in DE.

Years ago I did own a boat that was registered in DE and all I had to do was to take the registration to (any place that handled DE registrations) Eastern Marine in Newark, DE and apply for registration. Filled out a couple forms and was on my way in about 10 minutes. Had I registered that same boat in MD it woud have cost me over one grand! DE charged me about $25.00. I used it mainly in DE bay when the Tide Runners were plentiful and in the ocean off Fenwick Shoal.

In this day and age you may be able to register it in DE on their DNR web site.??

Maryland needs to quit hurting the Sport Fishing. It should look real close at the Virginia system for sports fishing and the way Virginia uses the monies collected from licenses
to help the sport. Example: Recreational Gill Nets. Nice ramps and bath rooms.

Ramps

I don't know so I'll ask.
If your boat is registered in DE, would you not have to pay out of state fees to use MD ramps?
I will add that having lived in VA most my life, and now just recently having moved to MD, MD seems to have a lot more bay and river access in the way of ramps.
