Cap the Catch of Menhaden Taken By The Reduction Industry
Come to Annapolis this Wednesday for the Public Hearing

After years of persistent pressure from anglers and conservationists, the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) is poised to place the first ever cap on the industrial scale menhaden fishery's landings. ASMFC is taking public comment this summer on Addendum II to the Atlantic Menhaden Fishery Management Plan (http://www.ccamd.org/conservation/Menhaden/draftAddendumIIforPublicComment.pdf). There is a suite of options the Atlantic Menhaden Management Board will consider when the ASMFC has its August 15-18 meetings in Alexandria, Virginia. Option 1 is "Status Quo, no cap on the harvest of Atlantic menhaden". If you don't want to see this option adopted, take advantage of your opportunity to provide comment.

Here's what you can do:
-Attend the hearing this Wednesday, June 29, at 7:00pm at the Annapolis Radisson (http://www.radissondestinationguide.com/locationMap.process/OID_EB39EA2D/?hotelCode=MDAPOLIS), 210 Holiday Ct, Annapolis, MD 21401

-Provide written comments to ASMFC by 5:00pm on August 1, 2005

Include in your comments that you support CCA's position on Addendum II to the Atlantic Menhaden Fishery Management Plan. CCA supports:

-A cap on the Atlantic menhaden harvest
-The cap should be in the Chesapeake Bay and apply to the industrial-scale, reduction fishery
-The cap should be set at the average of the last 5 years and should be in place for 5 years
-Any harvest over the quota should be subtracted from the following year's quota
-The proposed research program outlined by ASMFC
