Typical Summer Pattern Not So Typical

The fishing in August for South Florida is usually hot and slow. But if you have been out on the water lately the fishing has been good to very good. A sailfish bite in the summer?
We had our shots and so have a few of the other charter captains in the area; this is a nice departure of the typical summer bite. The reef fishing has been productive enough to almost not want to make you run offshore and pick through the small dolphin we have been encountering.

I fished on Monday 08/08/05 with Mike and Mike from Rochester, New York. These guys were a lot of fun and they had the right attitude when it came to summertime fishing in August. They told me they wanted to just “bend some rods”. By the end of the day they would tally a bonito, 0/1 sailfish, barracuda, kingfish, 2 mahi, red grouper, and a 28# blackfin tuna. Not bad for just wanting to “bend some rods”. As is true of a summertime bite we got all of our hits in the morning and then later on in the day. One tip I would like to share with you is to fish you baits deep in the water column. We caught the red grouper and the kingfish on the bottom rod. In addition to those fish we had other hits we were not able to capitalize on. If this is the type of fishing we are having in August I can only wait till we get to our colder months where the fishing can really heat up in Miami. If you would like to get in on some of the action give me a call. I would also like to let you know that I have taken a slight rate increase due to higher fuel cost. That being said I still charge only $550 for a full day of fishing, everything included.

I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome my newest sponsor Okuma Reels.
After testing some of their reels I decided to make the switch from Shimano. You owe it to yourself to take a look at these reels. They are building a state of the art reel at an incredible price. If you need any information on these reels feel free to drop me a line or better yet give me a call and let’s put these reels to the ultimate test.

Best of Luck…

I am going to be in the area from 11-12 t0 11-17 and would like to charter a trip one of the days. I will have a party of four or five guys. What is the story on mid November fishing? Are the sailfish there then?
Yes the saifishing starts to pickup that time of year although we have had a good summertime bite this year. If you have 4 or 5 guys you may want to move to a big sportfisherman because you may not be comfortable in a 27' center console. 5 guys + myself (6', 289#'s) is alot of people. I would love to have you fish with me but I would rather you be comfortable and have a good time. If you need help finding a boat just give me a call and I can point you in the right direction. Don't wait till the last minute to book because there are people who come down year after year and they have already booked thier dates. Again, if I can help you in any way just give me a call and I would be glad to help.

I am new to this e-mail stuff and I hope I am replying to you and not the whole world. I am not new to fishing and go offshore often in my 23 foot fountain cc which I won in a fishing contest. I usually go to some places that range 25 to 40 miles off the beach and try to catch BFT and mahi. There will be five of us old farts coming down for a short week but I doubt all of them will want to fish. I often fish with five guys in my small boat but it usually is my 25 year old son and his buddies so comfort is low on their list. I just love to be out there in the deep. Thanks for getting back to me and maybe we can hook up and fish. I will get back to you after I ask the guys who wants to fish. tight lines
Everyone can see our conversation so go ahead and just give me a call when you guys are ready. 954-588-5951
