I thought I would take a look at the much touted myth that taxes on the wealthy are lower during a Republican administration. Here is what I found...

Taft: (1909-1913)--income tax began in 1913 at 7% for top rate
Harding: (1921-1923): 56%-73%
Coolidge (1923-1929): 24%-56%
Hoover (1929-1933): 24%-63% (63% after Roosevelt took power)
Eisenhower (1953-1961): 91-92%
Nixon (1969-1974): 70-77%
Ford: (1974-1977): 70%
Reagan (1981-1989): 28%-69.13%
Bush I: (1989-1993): 28%-39.6% (39.6% after Clinton took power)

Low taxes for the TOP RATES are the exception even under Republican presidents, not the norm

Should be the norm...and I am not in that bracket.

How is it skewed? Is the information I provided in error? If so correct it with a reference and I will withdraw the information.

Thanks I had been looking for that chart.

I do note that with a Republican President (Eisenhower) a Republican House and a Republican Senate we had the largest tax on the upper incomes.

I also note that the only Depression this country has ever suffered was preceeded and occurred with Harding, Coolidge and Hoover being Republican Presidents supported by a Republican House as well as a Republican Senate. (10 years of Republican rule).

The record breaking upper income tax schedule was reduced by John F. Kennedy.

If CNN reports the news with this accuracy I congratulate them.
